Deep Basin

Located just south of Grande Prairie in Northwestern Alberta, the Deep Basin is one of the premier natural gas exploration and development areas in Western Canada. In the Deep Basin, ProspEx controls approximately 21,000 net acres of undeveloped land, mostly in the Kakwa area.

At Kakwa, ProspEx has completed a very successful pilot project that confirmed the applicability of horizontal, multi-frac technology in the Falher formation. Initial production rates ranged from 5 million cubic feet per day and 175 barrels per day of liquids per well, up to 8 million cubic feet per day and 280 barrels per day of liquids per well. Three wells were drilled, spanning the length of ProspEx’s lands in this area, and proving up a potentially repeatable, lower risk development program for the future.

Within the Kakwa area, ProspEx is the owner and operator of the field gas gathering and compression system used to produce the ProspEx wells.
